Who is that girl I see, staring straight back at me?

Why must we all conceal what we think, how we feel, must there be a secret me I'm forced to hide?
...I won't pretend that I'm someone else for all time..

First year in Dunedin, New Zealand...

What i find different there compared to Malaysia?

1. They usually say dinner as dinner..it's tea time.(when's dinner then?lol)
2. You don't bathe..only shower.
3. What's liquid paper? its called twink(that's how its spelled i think) peeps
4. Shower once a day? ewww..
5. People wash dishes in mild soapy water..and no rinsing after that!
6. Sun's out, time to be bare footed on the streets.
7. Enjoying the sun? Just chuck your couches out and jump on it.
8. Fashion Buzz..u wear skirt on pants.
9. The newspaper is town specific!
10. Mandarin oranges are called mandarins (er..that's a language..isn't it?)
11. Those coming from Malaysian are Malays..not Malaysian.(I'm a Malay Indian.lol)
12. The only way to have fun is to get drunk and wasted!
13. raisins? no no..its sultanahs.
14. Everyone's warm and friendly..even strangers go..'hey, how is it going?'
15. Dominos only have large pizzas
16. 24/7 shops are called dairies.
17. You don't say house..u say flat. get it? lol
18. What's SMS? drop me a TEXT k..
19. Discounts are actually real discounts..clothes which were pricy will actually drop down.time to shop! lol
20. Sandwiches for lunch? aren't they like snacks..?
21. method of advertising: all you need is a chalk! and you scribble on the streets. See!

I kinda had a culture shock when i got back to Malaysia but i've adjusted..back to being a pure Malaysian i think.lol. Soon i've gotta start Kiwi life again..lol.

Welcome home to all those who have got back to Malaysia! its good to be back!

I can't agree more. They have chalk advertising here too. It is so economical right? Hah..and it gets washed away by rain not long after that, which usually coincides with the end of the event. How practical!! Hah..

Jaisheree,
I loved your post. I've lived in Dunedin for a year and had a culture shock too. I'm from Brazil and i'm back. I miss that city. Here in Brasil we use to take shower 2 ou more times, we have lunch and dinner, we have fun for many other ways, yes! So, i believe Malaysia and Brazil have things in commum. I was surprised as well that sons leave home when they're 18. Here in Brasil, just when we get married... or when we want after starting working (after university).
Nice blog yours,
Talita.
